Nino Salvaggio in Troy is currently looking for a semi-truck driver to deliver products between locations.

Summary: Drives gasoline or diesel powered truck and/or a powered industrial Truck (Hi/Lo) to transport and deliver products to and from the store(s).  Drives to and from various locations as assigned.  Properly loads and unloads semi truck per Nino Salvaggio International Marketplace.  Follows all DOT laws and guidelines.  Assists in the store (s) as needed or directed.  All areas described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  Drives the Company transfer truck.

 Essential Job Functions, Duties and Responsibilities
  • Follow scheduled hours, store operating hours and labor guidelines as scheduled or assigned by the Factory Manager and/or Director of Operations and company guidelines.
  • The ability to transport all necessary items to and from stores and other destinations in a safe and expedient manner.
  • The ability to ensure that all product and necessary items are secure and handled appropriately.
  • The ability to be at the produce terminal at the appropriate starting time, considering weather conditions, returning product and visits to Eastern Market when needed.
  • Follow all guidelines for performing safety-sensitive functions, including the Company Alcohol and Substance Abuse policy, proper handling of Company vehicle, proper maintenance of vehicle, etc.
  • Properly follow and cooperate with all aspects of practicing safety while driving and performing all job duties.
  • The ability to properly load and unload all cargo transported.
  • The ability to receive cargo properly; checking in the items, ensuring that the invoices are correct, monitoring the process appropriately.
  • Maintain the correct temperature in the truck.
  • Must not operate a Nino Salvaggio vehicle while using a cell phone.  
  • Inspects truck daily for defects before and after trips and submits report to Director of Operations and/or Produce Buyer indicating truck condition.
  • Assists workers in loading and unloading all products on and/or off of the truck.
  • Adheres to all local, state and federal Department of Transportation laws, health and labor laws, OSHA regulations and EEOC requirements.
  • Maintains driver log according to U.S.D.O.T. regulations; if driving more than 100 miles daily.
  • Drives truck safely, promptly and directly to and from appropriate/assigned destination.
  • Comply with Company policies and procedures, store rules and standards of conduct as outlined in the employee handbook and memos, and state and federal safety and sanitation policies, procedures, guidelines and laws; ensure that all employees in the department, on your shift, properly comply with company policies and procedures, store rules and standards of conduct as outlined in the company handbook and memos, and state and federal safety and sanitation policies, procedures, guidelines and laws.
  • Maintains good communications in the department, store and throughout the organization.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Experience in transporting food/retail commodities.
  • Ability to communicate properly both verbally and in written form, sufficient to express an idea or thought.
  • Excellent knowledge of the products carried in the produce department (including outdoor floral).
  • Excellent organizational skills (detail oriented, goal oriented, follow through).
  • Great attitude.
  • Must be at least 25 years of age and possess a valid CDL A driver’s license.      
  • Excellent driving required.
 Standards held to: 
  • Must be able to effectively drive, transport, load and unload the truck per DOT and Nino Salvaggio International Marketplace guidelines and standards. Ensures all paperwork is accurate.
  • Must be able to follow and comply with all DOT and Nino Salvaggio International Marketplace policies, procedures, guidelines and laws.
  • Must be able to properly use, train others how to use and supervise the safe use of all equipment in the department.
  • Ensure that all you are positively contributing to the gross profit of the department/store/company by properly monitoring all aspects of the transportation process.
  • Demonstrates excellent team building skills within the department, the store and the Company.
  • Ensure excellent customer service.
  • Excellent communication.
  • Follow all Company policies and procedures – lead by example.
Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred. Three to five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and driving experience required. Can, by reason of experience, training or both, determine whether the cargo they transport has been properly loaded, distributed and secured in or on the motor vehicle that they drive, per all DOT standards and guidelines. Must have demonstrated experience in driving a semi trailer truck.

Language Skills: Ability to hear, speak and understand the spoken word in order to respond promptly to pages for assistance, to accommodate verbal requests from customers for information or assistance, to answer telephones, and to be able to communicate effectively with department employees, employees of other departments and customers. Ability to read, write, analyze, interpret and understand the English language with sufficient proficiency in order to read and understand instructions for operating electronic equipment and tools, company handbooks, policies and procedures and other written job-related documents including postings on company bulletin boards. Ability to compose and write reports and business correspondence, as needed.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Current and valid driver’s license and CDL A license required. Must possess an excellent driving record in all states that he/she has driven in. Must not be disqualified to drive a motor vehicle under any of the rules of the Department of Transportation. Must maintain the DOT health certificate.

  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for 8 or more hour periods.
  • Must be able to drive a truck for extended periods of time.
  • The ability to operate equipment safely and correctly.
  • Must be able to sit, squat, stoop, reach, kneel, load and unload truck, crouch and crawl.
  • Must be able to regularly bend, lift and/or move 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to frequently bend, lift and/or move 60 pounds.
  • Must be able to occasionally bend, lift and/or move 100 pounds (with assistance).
  • Must be able to reach and move items above shoulder height.
  • The ability to use hands to finger, handle and/or feel.
  • The ability to work in and between extreme cold, wet, humid or hot conditions.
  • Operating equipment (baler, power jack, etc.)- Must be 18 or older.
  • Bending, reaching and grasping.
  • Standing for extended periods and walking.
  • May occasionally be exposed to temperature of approximately -20F while handling products in freezers and coolers.
  • Must be able to reach and move items above shoulder height.
  • The ability to use hands to finger, handle and/or feel. Must be able to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to extreme cold and wet and/or humid conditions. The employee may also need to work outside in either extreme hot, cold, wet, etc. conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work in a fast paced environment.
